Starting in 2024, Smart Charge Management program participants will be able to opt-in to a new feature known as Peak Avoidance. This driver preference gives participants the option to exclusively charge their vehicle during off-peak times, even if that means they won’t hit their desired state of charge by their departure time. Currently, participants may receive a managed charging schedule that includes on-peak charging if required to hit the target state of charge set in your preferences. However, we received customer feedback that this isn’t always preferred. For example, a customer may prefer to avoid charging on-peak even if it means they get to an 80% state of charge instead of their set target state of charge of 90%.
Note, you will only receive a discounted electricity rate for charging off-peak if you are also enrolled in BGE’s EVsmart® Vehicle Charging Time of Use (TOU) Rate. If you are unsure what rate you are enrolled in (e.g. Vehicle TOU program or a flat rate), look at your electricity bill or call the BGE Contact Center at 800.684.0123. In early 2024 you will be able to enable this additional preference in your evPulse account, if desired. Please contact firstname.lastname@example.org with questions or comments on Peak Avoidance. For questions related to your specific BGE rates, please contact email@example.com.
